ARGENTINA: Cascos Blancos celebra el Dia Internacional de los Voluntarios
Por ello, el sábado 4 de diciembre próximo la Comision Cascos Blancos de Argentina convocará en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Buenos Aires a más de 1.500 voluntarios, en su mayoría juveniles representantes de las provincias que mostraron a lo largo de un año de trabajo su vocación de servicio en la lucha contra el hambre y la pobreza y en respuesta a las catástrofes naturales o generadas por el hombre.

Egypt’s Ministry of Youth, Volunteer Network Egypt and the United Nations Volunteers programme are organizing the launch of "Cairo Guide for Volunteers" on 9 December 2004. Volunteer-involving organizations, private companies and universities are also organizing workshops with the theme "Develop your career, volunteer for your community".

FIJI: Volunteers to be awarded for their contribution
The International Volunteer Day committee in Fiji has planned a march, led by a brass band and ending at the Sukuna Park where there will be speeches by the Lord Mayor of Suva and the United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative Peter Witham. In the evening a volunteer award ceremony will be held in recognition of the contributions of volunteers throughout Fiji.

GHANA: Corporate volunteers to offer free medical tests
The United Nations Volunteer programme in Ghana and the Ghana National Service Scheme volunteers will provide free medical examination to some 1,600 people in James Town in Accra. Kinapharma, a pharmaceutical company, will provide medicine and the Cuban Medical Brigade has pledged nine doctors and 13 nurses.

GUYANA: Government recognizes volunteer work
"Guyana is fortunate to benefit from the services of more than 110 international volunteers," said Clement Rohee, Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation at a press conference, held on the International Volunteer Day activities. The ministry is planning activities this year on the theme "Volunteer - Become a partner for development".

INDIA: Youth volunteers to clean river & protest violence on women
A volunteers’ carnival focusing on “Youth against Violence on Women” and “shramdaan” (voluntary labour) by youth with mental handicap to clean the highly polluted river Yamuna in Delhi are part of the activities being organized in India to mark International Volunteer Day on 5 December.

ITALY: International volunteers to be awarded 'Oscars'
FOCSIV, an Italian network of volunteer-involving organizations, will celebrate International Volunteer Day with the "Oscar of International Volunteering", a prize awarded annually to who rendered the best voluntary service.

KOSOVO: Volunteer activities focus on youth
United Nations Volunteers programme in Kosovo has lined up several activities starting 2 December, mostly with youth organizations, to mark International Volunteer Day. The activities will be launched at the Youth Center in Lipjan, where volunteers will participate in games and discussions and other activities.

LEBANON: School students’ discussion & play to flag off IVD
Planting trees, community discussions and honouring volunteers will constitute part of the two-weeks-long celebrations being organized in Lebanon to mark International Volunteer Day.

MOZAMBIQUE: Football match to help cross cultural borders
At Namaacha, a border city between Swaziland and Mozambique, a national football match will take place on the oaccasion of International Volunteer Day to promote volunteerism across different nations in Africa.

NEW ZEALAND: Volunteers' contribution to be celebrated
On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, Volunteering New Zealand is celebrating the enormous contribution volunteers make to New Zealand society. Other events include youth volunteer awards in Christchurch presented by Olympian Valerie Adams, volunteer picnics and BBQs, features in local newspapers and on radio, a mayoral reception for volunteers, the launch of a volunteer bouquet project and the official naming of Volunteer Corner in Wellington.

PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Family Arts Festival in Papua New Guinea
The uplifting, flexible energy of children and youth will fill Sir John Guise Stadium in Waigani, Papua New Guinea on 4 December, as families mark World AIDS Day and International Volunteer Day. The youth will present a Family Arts Festival and talk to people about HIV and AIDS.

SIERRA LEONE: National school essay, drawing competition
All United Nations volunteers, together with other international and local volunteer-involving organizations, will organize a national drawing, essay writing and debate competition on volunteering and HIV/AIDS, on 5 December, in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

TIMOR LESTE: Civil society groups gather to celebrate volunteerism
On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, civil society groups are coming together to celebrate volunteerism on 3 December in Dili, Timor Leste. The day-long event will include a fair, music, drama and dance.

TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Film on MDGs & volunteering to be launched
The United Nations Volunteers and the UN Development Programme will launch on 5 December a documentary film on how volunteers help achieve the Millennium Development Goals in Trinidad and Tobago.

UGANDA: Private sector initiative in peace-building & reconstruction
To mark International Volunteer Day, UN agencies, international and local organizations, and several private companies are gathering to renovate the Angai Primary School on 5 February 2005 in Uganda.

VENEZUELA: Voluntarios cambiando al mundo
La Federación de Instituciones Privadas de Atención al Niño, al Joven y la Familia FIPAN, realiza anualmente un reconocimiento formal a los voluntarios de sus 72 Instituciones Federadas, valorando así la dedicación, el esfuerzo y participación de un vasto sector de la población que durante todo el año han aportado su tiempo, recursos humanos y dedicación de forma voluntaria en beneficio de los niños, niñas, adolescentes, jóvenes y familias más necesitadas de nuestro país, acto que se realizará en el Auditorio de La Fundación Mercantil ubicado en la Av. Andrés Bello.

International Conference on Volunteerism & the MDGs
The Government of Pakistan is hosting a three-day International Conference on Volunteerism and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Islamabad from 5 to 7 December 2004. The conference, to be opened by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz, will consider the actions needed to promote and advance volunteer contributions as an essential ingredient to achieve the eight goals.
